Story Time and Craft Ideas

I know that some of you have been recently looking for new story time/craft ideas. Below are some helpful websites that have craft ideas and more on themes we commonly use for story times. In the Youth Office at Eldridge, I also have MANY issues of the old CopyCat magazine that is choc-full of ideas that you might want to utilize. If you'd like to see some of these copies just let me know. We also have a host of craft books for youth and caregivers in our collection at all of our branches. Be sure to place some of them on hold if you are looking for new things, too. Lastly, we should be sharing our ideas with one another! Feel free to post here often your ideas and what you did. That way we do not have to reinvent the wheel each time. Lastly, always feel free to call me or each other to brainstorm ideas.

Last September, my theme was apples, but this would work for Autumn also. I printed out a leafless tree and shrunk an apple print and put several of them onto red construction paper and cut them out. Then I cut small squares of tissue paper in green, yellow, red and orange. The kids had fun gluing on apples, and crunching up the tissue paper "leaves" and then glueing them all over the branches.
Note: I poured the glue into empty butter tubs(small)and had them paint the tree's branches(with some cheapy brushes)as they went along, because too much glue will dissolve tissue paper.
